Teaching Philosophy:
Building upon the natural
instrument, I teach singing that is healthy, and grounded in easy and free vocal
production. Natural, healthy singing is not limited to any style or genre of music. Our work together will be based both on your immediate needs and long-term goals.
If this is your first time taking voice lessons, be prepared for a long journey that explores vowels, consonants, pressure, breath energy, phrasing...and more!
If you are an experienced singer and have previously studied with other teachers, please come in with an open mind and a mentality that is driven by the desire to improve thoroughly, not instantly. Often, technical problems require re-training and intense dedication.
The goal of voice lessons is not to become great at voice lessons, but to sing beautifully, confidently, and healthily- for the stage.
Scheduling:
Please schedule with as much advance notice as possible. Lessons can be scheduled Monday through Friday, from 9am, with the last lesson taking place at 7pm. Feel free to use the contact form on this website to schedule.
Cancellations:
Please do your best to give at least 24 hours notice when canceling a lesson so that someone else may have a chance to book a lesson in your place. In the event of an emergency, please call.
Notebook:
For your lessons, please provide copies of scores for me, in a binder. If you plan to bring your own pianist, please let me know in advance. If you need a regular pianist, I am happy to put you in touch with some of New York's finest collaborative artists.
Recording:
Recording your work is extremely beneficial. Please bring a recording device (an mp3 recorder, phone recorder, etc.) to your lessons. If you do not have a device, please notify me in advance and I will provide one until you are able to secure your own.
Payment:
I am pleased to accept cash and personal checks. Please note: You will receive a free lesson with the advance purchase of 5 lessons. Additional incentives are given when you refer new students to the Studio.
